The problem (1) FOOD WASTE – Global statistics • In 2022 , about 1.05 billion tonnes of food were wasted globally (including household, retail & food service sectors). • That amounts to around 79 kg per person per year . • Households are the largest contributor, accounting for roughly 60% of this waste; food services about 28% , and retail about 12% . • There is also significant food loss earlier in the chain (harvest, storage, transport, etc.).
