• Valorization of food waste – green methods for extraction • 35.2 million tonnes of fruit harvested in 2024: • 13.5 million tonnes were pome fruit (apples and pears) • 10.7 million tonnes were citrus fruit (such as oranges, satsumas and lemons) • 7-16 % of the total mandarin fruit weight is peel → production of large amounts of solid waste Mandarin peel: waste or valuable source of bioactive compounds?
